The Brothers Forbes Book

The Brothers Forbes Book who: anyone who wants to play jazz standards previously played by The Brothers Forbes. what: re-orchestrations of a gig book donated to the Douglas College Music Program when: whenever it is finished where: anywhere why: it’s a piece of Canadiana; part of our musical heritage. And some people enjoy this type of music.

Here’s a list of the songs in this collection (all 168 of them). There are so many it will take me a while to re-engrave them with Sibelius (or some other program). This project will have to be done in stages. Some of the songs are a type of arrangement, where, for example, the word “Quadrille” appears at the top of the page, and in the body of the song are a number of 8 or 12 or 16 bar tunes, each with it’s own name.

I’m linking to recordings of each song, where I can find recordings. Mainly I’m using Spotify and Youtube. I’m deliberately using the hokiest recordings I can find, because I believe the people who listened to the Forbes Brothers play these songs probably enjoyed hokey recordings of them.

I’ll probably need to create a database to keep track of everything. Eventually I could publish the database. In the meantime, here they are:
